Silk Route Festival 2008 concluded |

HUNZA, August 31: The Silk-Route Festival-2008 concluded with colourful cultural programmes in Gulmit and Ghulkin villages of Gojal valley, attended by hundreds of spectators from all over Northern Areas. The main purpose of the 18-days long events organised under silk route festival-2008 was to promote tourism activities and involve communities for sustainable tourism in the region.
The final-day event was organised by Wakhi Tajik Cultural Association (WTCA) with the collaboration of Northern Areas Tourism Department. The day programme held in Gulmit was presided by Managing Director NATCO, while Secretary Finance and Revenue, Syed Mutahir Shah acted as the Chief Guest. The artists presented the mosaic of local culture in front of the audiences as traditional dance, sword dance, folklores, songs, Paidal-Polo, skits and docu-dramas regarding the historical trade along the silk route. |

Chief Secretary visits hunza valley |

HUNZA, August 16: The Chief Secretary Northern Areas, Babar Yaqoob Fatah Muhammad held meetings with people belonging to different walks of life during his first visit to Hunza after resuming his office. In this regards delegations of all Hunza union councils, district councillors and notables from all over Hunza held separate sessions with the secretary and discussed the development issues and needs of Hunza valley.
They demanded for an additional seat for Hunza in Northern Areas Legislative Assembly (NALA) before declaring Hunza-Nagar as new district, as the areas having similar demographic and geographic conditions are already having proper representations. |

Community Participation can play wonders”, Federal Finance Minister |

HUNZA, July 19: Federal Minister for Finance and Privatisation, Syed Naveed Qamar, has said that community participation is the most integral pre- requisite of sustainable development. He was speaking to the villagers of Ahmedabad, during the opening ceremony of the Ahmedabad Hydro Power station, some 15 km North of Aliabd, Hunza. The CEO, AKF Al-Nashir Jamal, Kamal Hayat, CEO PPAF, Izhar Hunzai, GM AKRSP, Sher Alam, Chairman, Ghulam Ali, CEO KADO, Sucrat Aman Rana, AC Hunza and local community was also present at the occasion. |

“I will never forget the people of Hunza”, says The Chief secretary |

Hunza, May 19: The Chief Secretary of Northern Areas, Qamar Zaman Chaudry has said that the people of Hunza are more cultured, learned and hospitable than any other region he has met during his life time. He was addressing the farewell party organised by local administration, Hunza at PTDC Hotel, Garelth, in his honor. The Secreatry has been transfered to Islamabad after one year of service in Northern Areas. He promised to extend services to the people of Northern Areas in general and Hunza in particular in any capacity.
Dr. Khawaja Khan, President Ismaili Regional Council for Hunza, applauded his efforts and dedication for the region and said that he has completed record projects within a year time period. |
